The Wall Hawks prepare to open the 2022 season

After winning only half of their games last year, the Wall Hawks are eager to get back on top.

WALL, Texas — The Wall Hawks football team has been waiting since December of last year to return to action. On Monday, coaches and players entered the field for the first training session of the 2022 season.

Last season was tough for the team who went 5-5, marking their first season without a win since 2008. However, heading into this season, head coach Houston Guy believes they have what it takes to keep their winning spirit alive.

“I think our kids understand what the expectations of this community are. I think they understand how lucky they are this season, you know, to be as young as they were last year. I think maybe the shoe will be on the other foot this year with the maturity we have in our team,” Guy said.

With many returning players for the Hawks, depth will be a key advantage as the season progresses.

Leading right guard Landon Melton says as we head into this season, there’s only one word to describe the team: passion.

“We really love what we do and we’re really energetic. I want to try to get as far as possible in the playoffs, further than what we’ve done in the last few years and try to do our best,” Melton said. said.

With just days to go before kick-off, senior left guard Nolan Laminack believes there are still improvements to be made within the squad.

“I think we have to play and do better in training, we didn’t have as good training as we would have liked last year. We have a great coaching staff and we have to listen to them. We just have to stay amplified no matter what and have a positive attitude,” Laminack said.

The Wall Hawks will open their season Aug. 26 in an out-of-district game against Eastland.
