This a very unusual book but I’m glad that I purchased it. Critical responses to the work has varied.

While it didn’t match Durrell’s high points in Balthazar, it’s still rather nice. The protagonist, Felix Charlock, finds himself increasingly tied to the multinational corporation Merlins, which is most often simply called The Firm. The seduction takes the form of lots of money and Benedicta, daughter of the founder of the company, with said founder now durrelo maybe — dead. I read this about five years ago, and gave it another shot durrrell with a more grounded mind.
