That is the way the world works in any situation, not just in prejudice situations. I did pick up some of the things I missed after reading your blog that I missed when I read the original essay. Ahmed, the bulk of your blog reviews what Rauch says. I prejudive it very relieving that most of my arguments were already argued by Rauch at one point or another in his essay.

I was quick to think that an old white southerner with family ties to the Confederacy would automatically be against the idea of befriending a black person.

The more you try to make him, the more he will refuse. I agree with Rauch. This encounter left him interested in his own reaction of fear.

As for me I did not really understand it as well as you seem to. In the article, Rauch is for the idea that as much as people are purposing to end prejudice, it is almost impossible to bring it to a standstill.

Millions of people have tried, and failed.
