I read this book when I was a teenager and ordered it jau I loaned this book to someone and they never returned it. While upstairs, he clearly hears an aggressive male voice telling him to get out. Ignore the overshadowing debate about whether or not it actually happened, and you’re left with one of the most finely crafted haunted house stories ever written. Unfortunately, on this re-read I suspected the author might also have been 11 or 12 when he wrote it.
