Plot The general idea of gaining a mission, finding companions to accompany the main character etc. No matter how hard things got, you all still prevailed, at least in my eyes. Instead I found a bunch of emotional teenagers whose failure to defeat an elder dragon in the book had turned them into bitter, whiny teenagers in the game.

We were caught behind charr lines on an extended patrol. The book introduces a new race, the Sylvari, and takes us into a changing land of dragons, war, and a quest for treasure.
Let’s just say that Guild Wars had a considerable impact on my life and I’m very glad it did. To save humankind, Queen Jennah seeks to negotiate a treaty with the hated charr. The sylvari necromancer was probably the most pleasant individual of their motley krewe, himself included. Needless to say, there had to be some details of important events or figures that were surely lost on me. Also, playing the game helped me connect with this book even more. Characters didn’t have to make a hard choice, they just acted as they were told.

As Dougal followed her, he noticed that the air had grown slightly cooler. The death of Prince Rurik is one of those gaming moments you never forget; you are with him when it occurs, and you are unable to save him; so reading about the world-changing consequences of his father’s grief is anchoring for those of us who played the original Guild Wars. Its articulated limbs hinged on glowing blue magical jewels that held the independent parts of the angular, headless creature together without actually touching them.
No spoilers on how things turn out, but I really, really enjoyed this novel. The actual story, however, was just ok. Now take care of it. I wasn’t much of a reader at the time, but I knew I’d need to buy something if I were to survive. Pretty much the only downside was that it’s very noticeable that poor authors had to squeeze a metric fuckton of lore and worldbuilding into the novel, so there are a lot of walls of text clumsily grafted into dialogues.

The main character, Dougal Keane, is the only person to travel back into Ascolan and make it out alive. And I have yet to find a book as enthralling and compelling as those Guild Wars books were.
You can help the Guild Wars 2 Wiki by expanding it. I liked the characters, like Ember or Killeen, but their journey felt flat and simple. It is not as rich in emotion as e.
