You know also that if you are hungry, your stomach craves food, and that if you hap;iness cold, you desire clothing; but other animals also understand these things. The works of God are apprehended by the senses, which are five, hearing, sight, taste, smell and touch.

Those therefore who are endowed with understanding, conscious of the frailty of their bodies should make all diligence to quit this kingdom of corruption and to enter permanently into the unchanging kingdom. There are, moreover, many animals of manifest utility, as the dog to watch and hunt, and the skins of some of them for clothing. Behold, another likeness of the world. Some of the passengers, however, gazed at the trees, the flowers and the fruits of the island, listened to and admired the notes of the birds, and became absorbed in looking at the wonderful curiosities found there. This class regards obedience and transgression as of the same degree in value.

These are self, God, World and what lays beyond the world. But like as man has dominion over his own heart in fo administration of his kingdom, the body, God also rules over the empyrean in the administration of the affairs of created beings, which he has committed to Edition: He sees the plants and medicines that could cure it, perhaps even ghaaali them in his hands, and is not aware of it.


Know, student of the divine mysteries, that the heart is like a reservoir xlchemy which five streams flow: They allege that man and other animals are like vegetables, and do not enter into another body when they die. But in death, as the senses are completely separated and the veil of the body is removed, the heart can contemplate the invisible Edition: For God has extolled knowledge and the doctors of the law; and the Edition: And this course is adopted by the Mystics.

They are weak in their own souls, and are in subjection like slaves to passion and anger. And just as abstinence and medicine restore the body to health, so to avoid acts of transgression and sin and to be obedient to God, are means of securing salvation.

Now that it is clear that happinese happiness of the heart consists in the knowledge and love of God, we may say that the heart that does not feel the necessity of the knowledge of God, and a longing for the love of God, but rather craves after and seeks the world, resembles a sick person who has no appetite for food, but even prefers such things as earth and clay to meat, regarding them as necessary, not-withstanding they have no nourishing qualities.

It is exceedingly hot, but in its passage to the brain, it loses some of its heat and becomes tepid.
